Meet Our Team
Our team brings over 25 years of expertise and knowledge to East Chapman Veterinary Center and is commited to providing exceptional and compassionate care to pets and their people.
Dr. Shayda Ahkami, DVM received her Doctorate Degree in Veterinary Medicine from Saint George University. Prior to joining East Chapman Veterinary Center, Dr. Shayda worked in both the private and non-profit worlds of medicine. She enjoys soft tissue surgery and dentistry. Dr. Shayda is a strong supporter of the “No Kill” Philosophy and authored the Animal Evaluation Martrix Policies & Procedures That Protect the Lives of Shelter Animals for the No Kill Advocacy Center.
Dr. Shayda is a member of the AVMA and is Fear Free Certified – a technique which reduces stress in patients. She is a vegetarian and when she is not working he enjoys spending time with her pet family and traveling abroad, especially to the islands.
Dr. Mike Ontiveros, DVM brings East Chapman Veterinary Center over 24 years of experience as a veterinarian. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from California State University of Fullerton in 1991. Following undergrad, he completed a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Washington State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. Dr. Mike loved school so much, he signed up and completed a rigorous double internship in Surgery and Emergency medicine in Santa Cruz, CA. His love for the beach and surfing brought him back to Southern California in 1997 where he built and managed a veterinary hospital for 20 years. During this time, he has also been the host of an online pet show called VETVID. The show is a compilation of pet care videos with Dr. Mike interviewing specialist from Orange County and around the country.
Mike enjoys surfing, golf, and traveling the world. However, if you ask him, his most favorite time is that spent with his family and pets. He can spend hours telling you about his oldest daughter’s club soccer games, his son’s WSA surf league competitions, and of course, his youngest daughter learning to play golf. He has a Labrador named Finn, a Mini Aussie named Canela, and a Maine Coon cat named Pedro.
